End of Year 2023

During the holidays family comes together and we learn about what we’ve all been up to over the past months or year. This is when one might have an opportunity to receive perspectives that fall outside of those of their daily communities. As I share about the work of the BFA, food quality, nutrition density degrading over the decades, I’m met with nods of understanding but not necessarily concern about it.   And as I watch the older folks in the family pop a cocktail of pharmaceuticals, I shake my head in wonder of what alternative we could be creating.

Are we among the convention that if it's on the shelf in the store or served anywhere to the public then it must be food and serve your body function?  It’s not.  We’re living in the reality of unintended consequences of the industrial agricultural revolution.   It’s not as simple as organic, although that’s a great start not to be contributing toxic chemicals into your body.   We’ve lost a vision of symbiosis where we are nourished with all that serves our vitality through our food.

It’s possible - amazing is possible.

Improving food quality, how to produce it and using market forces of transparency to influence growers, buyers and brands is the mission of the BFA. Dan and Team have been pioneering the understanding around variation in the food supply since 2017 with the launch of the Bionutrient Institute, and over this past year have evolved the science by working with partners like Dr. Stephan van Vliet to examine quantitative values of what is in our food and what impacts it, via mass spectrometry.

This is no small mission, but step by step, using a systems thinking approach to science, we can support an evolution to a healthy food system to nourish people and planet.

As the year closes, we reflect on the evolution of the organization, our personal evolution and challenges, and come together unified, invigorated, thriving and grateful.

The potential of what’s possible inspires us: Imagine farmers compensated based on quality versus quantity, eaters choosing foods based on their true and transparent nutritional value, and the soils of the earth back to work in symbiosis. Our research has shown that amazing is possible! There are farmers doing an amazing job producing nutrient dense crops. Our mission is to support all farmers to increase the quality of our food supply.

Your contribution matters to us. In these last few days of 2023, consider a donation to the Bionutrient Food Association and let’s bring health forward for a thriving community.

With love and appreciation,
Amanda, Dan, and Team
